The EPA has recommended that states use funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill to help bolster their cybersecurity defenses against cyberthreats to water and critical infrastructure. These defenses include prioritizing the remediation of exploited vulnerabilities, enforcing multifactor authentication with strong passwords, closing unused ports and removing unnecessary applications. The EPA also expects to soon require inspections for about 1,600 water systems to address cyber threats.
