IT employee impersonates ransomware gang to extort employer
Ashley Liles, a 28 -year -old British, was from Fleetwood in Hertfordshire, and in February 2018, he was convicted of unauthorized computer approach and threatened his employer.According to Serocu’s press release, Liles worked as an IT security analyst at an Oxford -based company, and as with ransomware attacks, the company’s executives paid ransom.He participated in his internal investigation and accident response efforts due to the company’s role, and attempted to make pressure by changing the payment address provided by the attacker and deceiving the employer to pay the ransom.But the owner of the company was not interested in paying the attacker, and unauthorized access was detected by the IP address of Liles’ house.
