How business works on the dark web: security of deals and regulatory mechanisms
This research looks into the use of escrow services and arbitration in deals conducted on the dark web. A sample of over one million messages mentioning escrow services between January 2020 and December 2022 was studied, with almost 313,000 messages found in the final year. They also analyzed the rules and procedures of escrow services across popular dark web sites. The typical transaction pattern involving escrow services was also identified.
