노스 캐롤라이나 주립 대학 롤리(Raleigh)의 연구원들은 Strava App의 Heatmap 기능을 사용하여 사용자의 홈 주소를 식별할 수 있는 개인 정보 보호 위험을 발견했다. Strava는 전 세계 1억 명이 넘는 사용자를 보유한 인기있는 달리기 동반자 및 피트니스 추적 응용 프로그램으로, 사람들이 심박수, 활동 세부 사항, GPS 위치 등을 추적할 수 있게 도와준다. 2018년 Strava는 트레일을 찾거나 핫스팟을 운동하고 같은 생각을 가진 개인을 만나고 더 혼잡하고 안전한 위치에서 세션을 수행하는 데 도움이 되는 “Heatmap” 기능을 구현했지만, 사용자 메타 데이터와 결합된 공개적으로 이용 가능한 Heatmap 데이터를 사용하여 사용자를 추적하고 신원화할 수 있는 가능성이 있었다.
Strava heatmap feature can be abused to find home addresses
Researchers at Raleigh, North Carolina State University, have found a risk of personal information protection that can identify the user’s home address using the Heatmap function of the Strava App.STRAVA is a popular running companion and fitness tracking application with more than 100 million users worldwide, helping people track heart rate, details, and GPS locations.In 2018, STRAVA implemented the “Heatmap” function, which helps to find a trail or exercise hotspot, meet individuals with the same thoughts and perform sessions in a more crowded and safe position, but publicly combined with user metadata.There is a possibility of tracking and identifying users using possible heatmap data.
