Inaudible ultrasound attack can stealthily control your phone, smart speaker
Researchers have developed a “Near-Ultrasound Inaudible Trojan” (NUIT) attack, which can be used to launch silent commands against devices powered by voice assistants, such as smartphones and smart speakers. The attack utilizes near-ultrasound waves inaudible to the human ear, and can be conducted using two methods; NUIT-1 when a device is both source and target of the attack, and NUIT-2 when an external device with a speaker is used to target another device with a microphone. Social engineering is necessary for NUIT-2 attacks.
